I have a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in teaching English, both from Florida Atlantic University.

Experience

I was a professor at Broward College from 1997 until 2015. I taught all levels of preparatory English, freshman English, and sophomore English. I also taught various literature courses, including Literature of the Fantastic and Supernatural. During that time, I was also a tutor, both officially and unofficially, in the college's Writing Center. I loved Broward College, and when I left Broward to move to Zephyrhills, I knew that I wanted to continue in education, and I realized that what I loved most was working with students one-on-one. So here I am.

Hobbies

One of my main interests is educational research and theory,. My interest began a few years ago when I wanted to improve my students' retention rates. Until then, I had just been teaching as I had been taught, without really asking "Why?" Asking that question led me to this truth: Students need to feel safe in order to learn, and in order to learn, they must be held to high standards. On a lighter note, I love geek culture, including comic books, Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, and Dungeons & Dragons.
